Saturday is Swap Shop Day at Gosport

On Saturday 24 July, St Thomas’ Church, Elson are kindly providing the use of their Church Hall, FREE of charge, to allow residents to donate, take or swap items which may be of use to others.

The saying ‘One man's trash is another man's treasure!’ say’s it all. What you may no longer need may be just what someone else is looking for, but perhaps can’t afford to buy. Well instead of throwing these items away, the Council is encouraging you to bring them along for others to enjoy.

“Someone might buy a new sofa and change their curtains, cushions and lamps to match, and instead of throwing away perfectly good items, we want to encourage people to offer them up for use by others,” said Councillor Graham Burgess, Chairman of the Community & Environment Board at Gosport. “This means that instead of ending up going to waste, the item gets a second chance of life with someone new.”

The same applies to clothes, just because the fashion changes or your child outgrows something, it doesn’t mean you have to throw it out. Or perhaps you are setting up home and require items to furnish it – why not come along and see what you can find to take away for free!

You don't have to bring something along in order to take something away with you and vice versa! So why not get the whole family to have a clear out, and pop along on Saturday 24 July between 10am and 2pm to see what you can give a second home to.

If you have an item which is too large to bring along, there will be a board on which you can stick information/photo and any contact details, so that people can contact you direct. Please do not bring broken or very large items along on the day.

The Bag it Up team will also be there collecting items of clothing, household textiles, mobile phones and inkjet cartridges to raise money for the Air Ambulance Charity, and Jacobs Well will collect anything left over at the end of the day.

“We hope this will be a great success and if that proves to be the case we hope to repeat it in other areas of the Borough,” added Cllr Burgess.
