Gosport Council Keen To Promote ‘Scrappage’ Of Inefficient Boilers

In their continued fight to reduce carbon emissions, Gosport Council are keen to promote the Government Boiler Scrappage Scheme.

The UK has one of the most ambitious carbon emissions targets in the world, and with domestic heating accounting for 14% of UK carbon emissions, the installation of an efficient heating system is the most effective way to tackle climate change and reduce home energy bills.

The Government is offering £400 toward the cost of upgrading 125,000 G-rated boilers with A-rated high-efficiency models, or towards installing renewable heating (such as a biomass boiler or a heat pump). The carbon saving from this equates to removing 45,000 cars off Britain’s roads. It could also save you around £235 a year on your energy bill. But this offer is only available to the first 125,000 eligible households to register via phone and website, so it’s important to do it now!

The scheme’s open to those living in an owned or privately rented home, including private landlords. If you’re a householder (including tenants) under 60 you can only apply for the scheme if the boiler you are scrapping is working and is the main boiler used to heat the home.

If you’re a householder (including tenants) and 60 or over you can apply for the scheme regardless of whether the boiler is in working order. However, it does still need to be the main boiler used to heat the home.

To find out more or to register for a voucher call the Energy Saving Trust’s advice line Tel: 0800 512 012 or log on to the Energy Saving Trust website[external Link] where a list of qualifying boilers is also available.

To register you need to provide your contact details, the name and brand of your boiler, plus the name, contact details of your installer, along with confirmation they have visited you and their quote. You can choose who does the work but they must be GasSafe registered or MCS registered for renewable heat units.
