Council To Provide Summer Play & Activity Schemes For Children Aged 5 – 11

With the school doors about to close for the summer break its time to find some fun activities to keep the children entertained and top of the list has to be Gosport Borough Council’s FREE `Open Access` Summer Play & Activity Schemes

 

Gosport Borough Council’s, Leisure Development Team co-ordinate a range of Play & Activity schemes for children and young people aged 5 – 14 years of age and, commencing Monday 27 July, the sessions will be operating at 6 locations around the Borough.

 

The schemes will operate from Monday 27 July to Friday 14 August from 10am to 12 noon and from 2pm to 4pm at: -

  • Alverstoke Infant School
  • Bridgemary Sports College
  • Grange Junior School
  • Peel Common Junior School
  • St Vincent Leisure Centre

 

The scheme will also operate at Lee on the Solent Infant School from Monday 27 July to Friday 7 August from 10am to 12noon and 1pm to 3pm. Again the scheme is Free but lunch cover is available for just £3.50 including lunch or £2 if own packed lunch is provided. You must book fast for this one as there are only a few places left on this scheme.

 

Full details on these and all other opportunities for children and young people this summer are available in our ‘STUFF 2 DO’ booklet which is currently being distributed through schools.

 

This year the scheme will provide a wide range of activities, including:-

  • Arts & Craft
  • Badgemaking
  • Inflatable obstacle

Plus coaching in:-

  • Archery
  • Boxing
  • Judo
  • Sports aerobics
  • Swimming, including learn to swim sessions.

 

There will also be the annual ‘Recycled Boat Race’ organised with the continued support of the Gosport Model Yacht Club. This will be held on Gosport’s own International Boating Lake at Walpole Park on Wednesday 12 August at 2.30pm.

 

Children will design and make their own boats during their attendance at the summer play scheme, with the best four boats from each scheme selected to compete in this year’s race. This event, which has gone from strength to strength, is now enjoying its fifth year. It is an excellent example of partnership working in that the Council and the Model Yacht Club work together for the benefit of the young people in our community.
