Having a Baby

Every birth in England and Wales has to be registered, within 6 weeks, with the Register Office covering the district where the birth occurred. Hampshire is one district, with each Registration (Register) Office able to register a birth anywhere in Hampshire (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton). This is usually done on the personal attendance of the parent(s). Registration is by appointment and each registration office will be able to advise you further. The registration will formally record the birth and allow certificates to be produced for legal purposes and to register with a doctor's surgery.
