Active Places

Sport England Active Places website is a single database that contains information on sports facilities throughout England, including local authority leisure facilities and commercial & club sites.

The Active Places also provides specific details such as where the facility is, its size, opening times, contact numbers and activities and has been designed to make it easier for the general public to take part in sports and exercise by finding and indicating where they can actually do it. Sport England hope this will help them to reach their goal of getting 70% of the population active for 30 minutes, five times a week by 2020.

To find out more about leisure facilities in your area log onto Active Places

Play Strategy for Gosport 2007 - 2012

This strategy was adopted by the Council in June 2007, its purpose is to enable the Council to establish a clear framework to provide a wide range of good quality, inclusive, safe, accessible play, leisure and youth activities, both in and out doors,

for all children and young people to enjoy.

This strategy will enable the Council to fulfil its duty to contribute to enhancing

the quality of life and well being of children and young people. It has been developed through wide consultation and partnership working. Participation of children and young people has been fundamental in the development of this strategy and will continue to be an essential part of achieving the key objectives.

The Action Plan to this strategy outlines what needs to be done, we have developed a play partnership group that is made up young people, residents and groups and organisations that may be in a position to develop projects to meet the actions. Some members are currently putting project proposals together to seek funding for them. The first application for funding will be to the Big Lottery in Sept 2007, they have already indicated an allocation of 200k that if successful will mean projects will start in 2008.
