Resident Associations
A residents association is an organisation of local volunteers who are formally recognised by the Council. They are open to all residents who live within estates, block or roads.
The Role of a Residents Association
Resident associations generally set their own agenda. Most groups have an interest in local community issues, such as the environment or crime. The Council offers training and support to new and established groups to help them clearly identify their own aims and objectives and address issues which reflect the needs of residents in their area.
Setting up a Group
For a tenant and residents group to be recognised by theCouncil it has to fulfill certain conditions which aim to ensure that it is democratic and representative of the communities it represents.
For example, conditions for recognition by the Council include:
- adopting a model constitution,
- adopting an Equal Opportunities Policy
- holding an annual general meeting to which all members are invited
- electing a committee

Road/Area Representatives
Road or area representatives are elected by residents to represent the needs and interests of local people on Housing issues. Road reps also encourage greater participation in the community and enable residents to have a direct link to the Council.
