Housing Options Service

What is the Housing Options Service? 

 

The Housing Options Service is an advice service located in Gosport to provide help and assistance with housing and homelessness problems.

 

We provide free, impartial and confidential advice to customers in housing need. 

 

How can you access the service?

  • Visit us at: Town Hall, High Street, Gosport on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 10am and 1pm. No appointment is necessary to access this service.

 

 

What help is available via the service?

 

Our staff are available to assist and explore the different options available to you regarding your housing problems. For example we can give you advice on:-

- Threatened loss of your home

- Prevention of homelessness

- Gosport choice

- Rent or mortgage arrears

- Debt problems

- Disrepair/ poor housing conditions

Referrals - we can provide a fast track appointment to meet with the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Housing Advice Centre to offer debt management advice, welfare benefit advice, including housing benefit and attendance at court for customers threatened with the loss of their homes due to repossession and bailiffs warrant.

 

Gosport Choice - is a register that holds details of people who would rent a home in Gosport where the landlord is either Gosport Borough Council or one of our housing association partners. The register is administered by Gosport Borough Council, for further information click here.

 

If you think you might lose your home you should make contact with the Housing Options Service immediately. You should bring with you all documentation you have received regarding the loss of your home.  You will be interviewed by a member of the Housing Options Team, who will carry out an assessment interview and decide how we can help you. The options available to you could be:

- Rehousing via Gosport Choice, click here for further information

- Rehousing via Housing Associations waiting list (not linked to Gosport choice)

- Rehousing via other opportunities, click here for further information

If the council is unable to assist you with rehousing through any of the above you will be offered an appointment to meet with an officer from the homeless team and be asked if you want to make an application for housing assistance under part VII of 1996 Housing Act "Homelessness".  For further information click here.

 

If you are facing domestic abuse you should make direct contact with the housing options service. We will do all we can to help you with your housing problems. You will have the choice of speaking with a male or female Housing Options Officer, who will be able to explain what options you have and what help the council can offer you.
