Multi Agency Working

ASB is not just a GBC section issue.  The GBC adopts a holistic approach and is a member of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and works in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire fire and Rescue, GBC LHA, RSL’s, the NHS and Hampshire County Council.

Prevention

  1. Preventative action is the key to an effective policy.  The CSS takes many steps to prevent the occurrence and escalation of anti-social behaviour.
  2. We will ensure a rapid response to reports of graffiti, vandalism and criminal damage.
  3. The Anti Social Behaviour Coordinator will work with people that are deemed to be on the cusp of offending. In the case of young people aged 10 to 18, in Gosport they are referred to the Anti Social Behaviour Coordinator who works with them and their families to engage in alternative activities. The Anti Social Behaviour Coordinator works closely with the young person to prevent the young person from entering into further acts of Anti-social Behaviour and crime. We will support them in recognising the undesirable behaviours that they are displaying and help them change this by using Acceptable behaviour contracts.
  • An Acceptable Behaviour Contract is an intervention designed to engage an individual in acknowledging his or her anti social behaviour and its effects on others, with the aim of stopping that behaviour.
An Acceptable Behaviour Contract (ABC) is a written agreement made between a person who has been involved in anti social behaviour, their local authority and the Police. ABC's are not set out in law, which is why they are usually called Agreements.
Although ABC's have often been made with young people, they are a tool that can be used for a person of any age. The informal, flexible nature of the Contract means they can be used for various types of anti social behaviour. ABC's can be used to promote effective partnership partner work with a range of agencies.
  • ABCs are signed voluntarily by the subject, and if breached, have no civil or criminal penalties attached. However, the threat of legal action normally provides an incentive to ensure that the contract is adhered to.
