Budget announcement - Temporary Increase in amount of Small Business Rate Relief Available to Eligible Business Ratepayers
Gosport Borough Council is responsible for collecting business rates (National Non-Domestic Rates). All money collected is paid by the Council to Central Government into a "National Pool" which is then redistributed throughout the country in the form of grants to Local Authorities.
The rateable value is set by the Valuation Officer, who is an agent of the Inland Revenue. Any enquiries concerning rateable values should be directed to The Valuation Office, Overline House, Blechynden Terrace, Southampton Hampshire, SO15 1GW. Tel No 023 80 538500. A copy of the valuation list is available for public inspection at the Town Hall or via the internet on The Valuation Office's web site at www.voa.gov.uk
The amount a business has to pay depends on their Rateable Value and some other factors, such as transition, exemptions and reliefs. For more details please contact The Business Rates section on 023 9254 5467 at the Town Hall.
