Did you know that by the time their baby is potty-trained most parents will have completed between 4,000 and 6,000 nappy changes? Real nappies are an easy to use, practical alternative to disposables- they are also cheaper and reduce rubbish going to landfill.

Portsmouth and South East Hants Real Nappy Network:
Volunteers from the Portsmouth and South East Hants Real Nappy Network kindly support our Real Nappy Events, providing expert advice and guidance. They offer help and support to anyone using real nappies and may be able to help with any problems you may be having. They can offer you a home demonstration, or come to your group or event, and regularly demonstrate nappies. If you would like to contact this group for more information, or to find out about borrowing their trial pack of real nappies, their contact details are at the bottom of this page.
Real Nappy Facts:
- Real nappies have come a long way since the days when the only option was a terry towelling nappy. There are lots of modern and funky styles that easily fasten with poppers, velcro or nifty little plastic grips.
- Nearly three billion disposable nappies are thrown away in the UK every year. This creates 670,000 tons of nappy waste. By using real nappies you could cut your household rubbish by up to half and help the environment at the same time.
- Home laundered nappies could save parents up to £500 on the cost of keeping a baby in nappies. Further savings can be made by using the same real nappies for your second or third child, or by buying second-hand nappies and accessories.
- All nappies use energy, whether it's to make disposables or to wash real ones. But taking everything into account, washing nappies at home leads to less climate change impact than using disposables.
- It doesn't have to be 'all or nothing' with real nappies - you could of course choose to use disposables when travelling or away from home.
Where to buy:
