The Environmental Health Section has overall responsibility for the Council's duties in respect of contaminated land under Part llA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. These include production of a strategy for dealing with land within its area that is “contaminated land”. This is any land which, because of substances in, on or under it -
- is causing significant harm or there is a significant possibility of such harm being caused; or
- Pollution of Controlled Waters is being, or is likely to be, caused.
Responsibility in certain circumstances falls to the Environment Agency.
