PRIVATE WATER
SUPPLIES
A private water supply is in general terms, any water supply
which is not provided by a water company such as Portsmouth Water.
Private water supplies can be obtained from a variety of
sources including:
- wells
- boreholes
- springs
- rivers
and streams
- lakes
and ponds
Water that is supplied by
Portsmouth Water that is then further distributed by another person is known as
a ‘private distribution network’.
Examples of private distribution networks are caravan sites, colleges,
MOD sites and factories etc.
The Private Water Supplies Regulations 2009 came into force
on 1st January 2010 and require local authorities to monitor the
quality of private water supplies to ensure compliance with the UK
drinking water standards.
If you wish to register or inform us of a private water
supply or private water distribution network in the borough please contact the
Environmental Health Partnership on 023 92545506 or email ehs@gosport.gov.uk.
