Temporary Event Notices

A Temporary Event Notice (TEN) can be given to permit any of the licensable

activities to take place.  The TEN is subject to limits on the number of such

notices that can be given by an individual to licensing authorities

(5 for an individual over 18 years or 50 for a Personal Licence Holder).  The

number of TENs that can be made for specific premises is not more than

twelve in any year.  This is subject to a maximum total duration of the periods

covered by TENs at any individual premises to not more than 15 days in any year.

The number of persons allowed on the premises at any one time must not exceed

499.

Gosport Borough Council Licensing Authority encourages all applicants to give

the Licensing Authority and Hampshire Police as much advance notice as possible.

A reasonable period of notice of a temporary event taking place would be by

submitting the Temporary Event Notice and copies to each organisation 20 working

days (Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00) before the day of the event.

It is acknowledged that the statutory minimum period of notice is 10 working days.

We must therefore advise that applications received with less than 10 working

days notice will not be considered.

Section 193 of the Act defines “working day” as any day other than a Saturday, a

Sunday, Christmas Day, Good Friday, or a day which is a bank holiday under the

Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 in England and Wales.  “Ten working days

notice” means ten working days exclusive of the day on which the event is to

start, and exclusive of the day on which the notice is given.
