Public Notice
Gosport Borough Council.
Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licensing.
Town Police Clauses Act 1847.
Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.
Gosport Borough Council at a full meeting of the Council, held on the 6th April 2005 as the licensing authority for hackney carriages plying in the Borough amended its policy in relation to the number of hackney carriage vehicle licences that it issues.
Applications from prospective operators of hackney carriages will therefore be accepted with the following provisos:
All applications must be in conformance with the requirements of the above Acts.
All new applications to operate as a hackney carriage must be from operators of vehicles that are disabled and wheelchair accessible.
The vehicle must conform to the “Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Conditions “of the Council. (Copies of these conditions can be obtained from the Councils Licensing Team).
Previous requirements with regard to a business plan have been revoked.
The Council will not refuse any application solely on the basis of the number of existing licences already issued.
Existing hackney carriage vehicle licences issued before the 6th April 2005 will on annual renewal continue under the terms of the original licence until the 1st April 2015.
Licences issued prior to 6th April 2005 will be transferable until 1st April 2015 under the terms and conditions of the original licence.
The existing “Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Conditions” of the Council will be amended to ensure that the existing standard of hackney carriage vehicles in the Borough are maintained.
Nothing in this revised policy affects the licensing of private hire vehicles.
