We licence taxis and private hire vehicles to make sure they are safe and suitable to travel in.
Vehicles must meet high standards before a licence is issued. They must pass a mechanical engineers report. Vehicles over 6 years old are required to have 2 engineers report a year. The owner of the vehicle must produce evidence of insurance. Cars must be clean, comfortable and carry safety equipment such as a fire extinguisher.
The Council controls fares in taxis, but we cannot control fares of private hire vehicles.
