INFLATABLE BOUNCING DEVICES ('Bouncy Castles')
There are plans to isssue a replacement to EIS7 which will be similar in all respects except that it will state that inspection must be carried out by a "competent person". The MUTA scheme is designed to define and identify "competent persons"
· Access to the device at outdoor events
- use of barriers, fences, etc.
- soft landing mats at appropriate locations
· Safe Operation
- use of all anchorage points
- not to be erected/used in high winds
- suitable number of attendants
- safety rules for 'bouncers'.
· Training of operators and attendants
- on all aspects of erecting, operating, supervising and dismantling the device.
· Examination, inspection and maintenance
- thorough examination at least every 14 months by an appointed person; this will include examination of the blower, the inflatable and the electrical installation.
- Inspection before first use on any day (list of items detailed in PM76).
- Maintenance, following manufacturers' guidance and schedules.
- Records should be kept.

ANNUAL INSPECTIONS
At intervals not exceeding 12 months all items of equipment and all other aspects pertaining to play activities and security in all children's play areas should be subjected to detailed certified examination by a competent person. These inspections should be recorded and any documents relating to the inspection retained on site (including details of any repairs/work undertaken)
