Food Hygiene Training for Food Handlers
Food Hygiene Regulations require that food business operators must ensure that food handlers are supervised and instructed and/ or trained in food hygiene matters in accordance with their work activity
Meeting this requirement is about having the necessary skills to do the job. There is no legal requirement to attend a formal training course or to obtain a qualification, although many businesses may want their staff to do so. The necessary skills may be obtained in other ways, such as through on-the-job training, self study or relevant prior experience.
Where food business operators want their staff to attend a training course or to obtain a qualification the
Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has introduced the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering.Gosport Borough Council Environmental Health Services provides this training course.
