GOSPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL- Environmental Health, Food Complaints
If you bought some food from a shop, or had a meal at a restaurant or cafe and found it contained something it shouldn't - for example, plastic or hair, what should you do? The Environmental Health Section of Gosport Borough Council has qualified Environmental Health staff to investigate any complaint about food.
What You Can Expect To Happen After You Complain
The Council will investigate all complaints relating to the failure to comply with food safety requirements and the unfitness of food.
Details of your complaint will be taken by a member of the Environmental Health Staff including your name and address and contact details. These will be not disclosed without your permission. You will be asked to sign the food complaint form and the food will be kept by Environmental Health.
You will be informed of the name of the Officer who will be dealing with your complaint. The Officer will contact you with further details and may ask you to make a signed witness statement in the event that a formal prosecution may be taken
We will investigate the complaint by contacting the retailer, supplier, manufacturer, importer and other local authorities as appropriate and keep you informed as the investigation progresses.
It may take several weeks to collect all the information to decide on a course of action. You will be informed on the outcome of the investigation and the Council's decision on any formal action.
We will not seek to obtain or otherwise negotiate any compensation or redress on behalf of a complainant.
