THE ANNUAL MEETING of the COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF GOSPORT was held in the Ballroom of the THORNGATE HALLS, BURY ROAD, GOSPORT on WEDNESDAY, the FIFTEENTH day of MAY 2002 at 11.00 AM.

Apologies for inability to attend the meeting were submitted on behalf of Councillors Mrs Batterbury, Bone, Mrs Gravell and Taylor and Honorary Alderman O'Neill.

INTRODUCTION OF NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILLORS
Councillors Carr, Francis, Mrs Elshaw, Searle, Carter, Smith, P Russell and Friend were introduced by the Returning Officer and welcomed by The Mayor. The Councillors replied briefly.

ELECTION OF MAYOR
PROPOSED BY COUNCILLOR EDGAR
SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR HOOK
That Councillor Geoffrey Ronald Bartlett be elected Mayor of the Borough of Gosport for the Municipal Year ending May 2003.
CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
The Retiring Mayor thereupon vacated the Chair, which was taken by the newly elected Mayor, who made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

REPLY BY HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR
The new Mayor replied to the Council's resolution and returned thanks for his election.

DIVINE SERVICE AT ST MARY'S CHURCH, ALVERSTOKE, GOSPORT
The Mayor invited the Members of the Council to accompany him to Divine Service at St Mary's Church, Alverstoke, Gosport on Sunday, 7 July 2002 commencing at 10.00 am.

THANKS TO RETIRING MAYOR AND MAYORESS

That the best thanks of the Council be accorded to Councillor D F Wright and Councillor Mrs J M Wright for their services as Mayor and Mayoress respectively during the past Municipal Year.

ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR

That Councillor Mrs Iris Edith Binfield be elected Deputy Mayor of the Borough of Gosport for the Municipal Year ending May 2003.
CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
The Deputy Mayor made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office and returned thanks for her election.

GOSPORT CITIZEN AND YOUNG CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The Mayor awarded a Citizen of the Year Certificate and medallion to Mr A Edgar for his eminent services to the Borough. The Mayor also awarded a Young Citizen of the Year Certificate and medallion to Bradley Rigg.

GOSPORT YOUTH COUNCIL
Mr Matt McClaren, Chairman of the Youth Council, extended thanks to the Council on behalf of the Gosport Youth Council for its support.
