INTRODUCTION
During Winter 2000, Media 3, a local company, carried out a further survey on behalf of Gosport Borough Council. Current Members of the Residents' Panel were issued with this survey about satisfaction levels on a wide range of Council Services. To ensure adequate response more residents were randomly selected from the electoral role and were given the opportunity to join our Resident's Panel by completing this survey.
The survey was prescribed by Central Government and must be carried out every 3 years, within a specified framework, which includes some very precise guidance on aspects such as:
- Which questions must be asked
- The exact wording of questions
- The target population
- The sampling frame
- The sampling method
- Sample size and confidence levels
- Social sub group data collection
- The time of year for field work
- Calculating the final rating
- Confidentiality
- What results must be published.
A total of 1173 questionnaires were returned by the Panel.
This is the first year that Gosport Borough Council has had to carry out this survey so historic data does not exist to allow comparisons.
WHAT WILL BE DONE WITH THE RESULTS?
Some statutory best value performance indicators are based on this survey data and are shown in the Council's Best Value Performance Plan.
The Council will take all the results of the survey and use them, where possible, to help shape Council policy and to improve the services that it provides to the community.

QUALITATIVE DATA
This refers to comments which people have made. This data cannot be analysed in the same way as the answers that require a 'tick the box' response so all qualitative comments have been taken and collated into themes as shown below.
FINDINGS FROM THE 'GENERAL COMMENTS' QUESTION
A total of 391 'other comments' were made and these have been collated into themes.
