Gosport Borough Council is in the process of preparing new Conservation Area Appraisals for the 16 Conservation Areas in the Borough. The review of existing Appraisals and preparation of the new documents began in 2005 and will continue until 2008.
The Appraisals are intended to act as a guide to the buildings and features that make a special contribution to the character of the area. They assess how each area historically developed, their character, the scale and form of development and opportunities for continuing enhancement. As each Appraisal is adopted by the Borough Council they will be used to inform planning decisions through the Development Control process and the development of Planning Policy.
Eight Appraisals have recently been adopted. Further Appraisals will be written later this year and public consultation undertaken as they are prepared.
